Hazel W.S. Wong
Ms. Wong received her Master of Architecture in Advanced Studies degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, U.S.A. and her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. She is a member of the Ontario Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Her distinguished career has been highlighted by a number of design successes, most notably the internationally acclaimed Emirates Towers in Dubai – an office, hotel and retail development which ranked amongst the ten tallest buildings in the world at the time of completion.
In Canada, as Design Associate with the firm of Parkin Partnership in Toronto, her design for The Ontario College of Nurses Headquarters in Toronto received the prestigious Canadian Architect Award. Shortly after, Ms. Wong joined Norr Partnership and co-designed the winning concept for the National Bank of Dubai Headquarters. In 1992 she relocated from Canada to UAE as Design Director of Norr Group. Over the years, she solidified her reputation as an esteemed design architect with successes in many architectural competitions, including the Headquarters of United Arab Shipping Company, UAE Civil Aviation Dubai Headquarters, The Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Center, and most notably The Emirates Towers.
She founded WSW Architects, her own architectural and engineering office in year 2000, challenging the new millennium with a progressive vision of modern building designs, including the distinctive and recently completed World Trade Centre Residence in Dubai.
In 2003, she accepted the invitation to join RMJM as Regional Director, destined to establish the firm as a “design-led” consultancy office in UAE and the Middle East. Her design projects include large scale mixed-use, office, residential and hotel developments in Dubai Marina, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, DHCC, The Lagoons; and in Doha, Qatar, the iconic Dubai Towers Doha.
In the fall of 2008 Ms. Wong resumed her role as Executive Director and Design Principal of WSW Architects. She continues to lead her practice in the delivery of environmentally and functionally responsible, technically sophisticated, distinctive and timeless architecture.
